Who Or What is G-D?

I don't like the G word and I only use it to indicate the general idea or concept or vision that word may have once picked out or pointed to. I no longer see much value in the word and I no longer choose to use it. You of course may use it to your hearts content.

- The current Dalai Lama, for example, seems to embody living simply while being extraordinary. Thich Nhat Hahn also seems pretty amazing to me in this regard. They seem pretty amazing to me too, Belarius.

- Einstein did not believe in a personal god, or any sort of "higher thing" concept that was remotely anthropomorphized. His beliefs are much more in line with Spinoza's god, which gave the name "God" to the beauty of the universe. I grant that he was rather spiritual, but not theist.

- Well, Belarius, maybe the single, best example of a non-absolutist doing fabulous work in the sciences was Einstein. And he was a theist. I am inclined to agree though, that both theist and atheist non-absolutists have more in common with each other than they do with absolutist theists and atheists.

- There's a presumption among physicalists that if we can just correlate religious experience, or love experience, or divine experience with physical entities and processes like the brain and its various biochemicals, then we've shown that divine is merely physical.

- You've said a lot here, FL. My question is why does his 'sacrifice' have to have value? Why is it always assumed that it was about us, and not him? I don't think he sacrificed at at all. I think he gained. I think he chose and he gained and I think that's all anyone ever does here.

- What I find most fascinating about Jesus is the idea that he didn't suffer on the cross. I like to enrage Christians sometimes and a presentation of this idea does a marvelous job.
